Meeting was called to order at 19:25 with 38 present.   We have a quorum.

 

Miguel presided over the meeting and welcomed everyone. The meeting was not broadcast live on the air tonight from the EOC.   There was testing being conducted in another room tonight.  Everyone took turns and stated their name and call sign.   Miguel welcomed everyone again.  Miguel reminded everyone present tonight to sign in.

 

Miguel announced that we had the Holiday Party last month and it was a big success. There were no minutes for last month.

 

Corresponding Secretary – Lloyd brought in the mail from our new PO Box.

 

Treasurer – Esther advised that she is collecting dues for 2014 and selling Hamboree tickets for $10.00.  Last chance at this price.  Tomorrow they are back to $12.00.

 

Website – Julio advised that the club website has bee updated with the Hamboree and Maker Faire information.  Miguel showed the members what our website looks like.

 

Club Elmer/PIO – Frank is not present tonight.

 

Repeater update:

 

The 147.000 is up but not working. Still down.

The 147.760 – Not working.

The 444.200 – Working.

The Digipeater 144.390 is up and working.

D-Star is working.

 

Emergency Committee Chair – Shannon announced that the emergency nets take place on Wednesday nights.  He has a schedule and it is posted on the website.  Miguel showed where all the information was and told the members that they can print the schedules and make their own book.

 

Old Business:

 

At last month’s meeting/Holiday Party awards were handed out.  Carl presented the awards to those that could not attend last month.  To Joanne Carbana – the Team Player Award for all she does for the club.  Shannon Rodriguez received the DEN award as our emergency net manager.  Congratulations to all!

 

At last month’s meeting, Julio received Honorable Mention for 2 years of support and the “Ham of the Year” award. Harry received the Net award.  Harry and Daryl provide everyone with words of wisdom on our nets.

 

Hamboree is coming up.  We still need volunteers.  Jason spoke about the choice assignments that are still available.  See Jason if you are interested.

 

Jason also spoke about the MS Bike ride.  He also needs volunteers. It’s a two day event on March 1 and 2nd.

 

Miguel advised that at the Hamboree, Wednesday is for setting up tables; Thursday is vendor check-in’s from 9 AM – 6 PM; Friday is vendor check-in’s from 9 AM – 12 Noon and the Hamboree opens at 12 Noon on Friday to 6 PM; Saturday it will be open from 9 AM – 12 Noon.  We have ads in a lot of Ham magazines.

 

New Business:

 

Pete Rimmel spoke about the ARRL 100 Year Centennial Anniversary Celebration.  It will be held in Hartford, CT.  He has a schedule that he passed around.  You can work all three modes and get points.  Florida is February 19 – 26 and again in November.  You can work all states and get an award for that too.  It goes on all year long.  Also LOTW (log book of the world).  DX Summit has more information.

 

Philipe spoke about an historical event that the club did.  We held the 1st Ham test in Spanish in the continental United States.  He and Armando conducted it with the approval of the ARRL, FCC, Puerto Rico Amateur Radio Association.  Four people passed.  It is going to happen again that the Hamboree.  They are also looking into conducting testing in French and are contacting Louisiana and Quebec.  Great job!!  It’s good to have operators that speak other languages especially in an emergency.

 

Dave spoke about the Tour de Cure which is two weeks away on January 26.  It will go from Haulover to BlackPointMarina.  He needs volunteers.  If interested, please see Dave.

 

Miguel announced that Sunday, February 2 – is the Miami Marathon.  If you can volunteer please contact Ben Nemser.

 

Pete announced that an old Ham John and his wife Suzette that moved to Virginia says hi to all of us.

 

Ryan came in from testing and had nothing to report.

 

Miguel played a video “Discovering Amateur Radio” to those present.  Great presentation.  Miguel also told the members to check out “hamradiosecrets.com”.

 

Dave announced that 3 passed their Tech and 2 passed their General tonight.  Lynne Olsen passed both his Tech and General.  Carlos Lopez and Luis Roman both passed their Tech.  Orlando Arias passed his General.  Congratulations!!!

 

Miguel announced that we recently had a solar flare and an earthquake by Cuba and another one by Puerto Rico.  There is good propagation on the HF side.  Ray said he would send an email out on space events.

 

Armando came in from testing and was given a round of applause and recognition for his work with the Spanish testing.  Great job Armando!  He announced that the next Spanish class will be this Saturday and next Saturday and the test will take place at the Hamboree.  February will be the next English class in Plantation.  The information will be posted on the website.

 

Dave announced that the Coral Gables Races will be conducting a disaster training exercise in the next few months.  It may be a joint exercise.  TBA.

 

Miguel asked if there was any other new or old business. There was none.

 

Miguel thanked everyone for coming.

 

Carl made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Esther.  The DRC meeting was adjourned at 20:35.
