Meeting was called to order at 19:46 with 28 present.

John was not present tonight and Robert presided over the meeting. Robert welcomed everyone to the meeting. The meeting was broadcast live on the air tonight from the EOC. There was no testing tonight.

The microphone was passed around the room and everyone took turns and stated their name and call sign. Robert welcomed everyone again. We do not have a guest speaker tonight, but we have two presentations.

Repeater update:

Merritt spoke about the 147.000. It’s on the air. Works pretty well. The old temp 147.000 is on the air. He needs to send the payment for the repeater. He also needs a copy of the lease for the repeater. Ray will check; Sam checked and does not have it; he will check with Ronnie.

Robert spoke about the 220.000. It’s in the same place. Nothing new.

Ray spoke about the 145.760. Up and running. Someone is playing games on the air. It was discussed.

Carl spoke about the 444.000. Working fine.

Old Business:

Robert spoke about the Ham trailer. It’s at the shop. Received a quote for $1400.00. Damage was caused to Carl’s truck moving the trailer when it broke loose. A problem with the hitch. They did not give a time frame for the trailer to be finished. Robert, Merritt, John and Steve are going to do some of the work themselves to save $400.00.

Robert spoke that the club picnic that took place on Saturday, Dec 27 at Tropical Park. It went great and everyone had a great time. The Hispanic Hams were directly across from us.

Robert had a Free Flea at the Museum of Science south parking lot on January 10th. It went well.

Ben Nemsner spoke about the Miami Marathon for Sunday, January 25 in the morning. He is short 5 people. You need a dual band HT radio. Contact Ben at [email protected] or his cell 305-439-7190.

Philippe spoke about the Jr Orange Bowl Parade that was Tuesday, December 30. It was the 60th Junior Orange Bowl Parade. We got the logo of ARRL on the parade items. Jason did a great job and it was great success. There were about 10 Hams and they were used twice during the parade.

Robert asked about any other old business and there was none.

New Business:

Robert announced that the Orlando Hamfest is Feb 12, 13 and 14. If you are going, check with someone to caravan up to Orlando together. Ray advised that the Daytona 500 is the same weekend and rooms are costing more this year.

Robert spoke about our Ham Octoberfest. He will send an email soliciting help to see what help he gets. Steve wanted to know if the cards would be ready for the Orlando Hamfest and Robert said no. At the next meeting he will have more information.

Sam spoke next about the Boy Scouts Merit Badge College coming up on Friday, March 13 and Saturday March 14. It is their 16th year. The club is invited to participate. If you are interested in teaching one of the Merit Badge courses, let Sam know. It will take place at Barbara Goldman High School.

Robert announced that the membership dues for 2009 are due. $30.00 per member and $5.00 for each family member.

We had two presentations tonight. The first one was by Robert on the Atwater Kent Radio Company. It was the factory that made old heavy radios back in the 1920’s. He had a radio and a speaker on display. He showed a slide show of pictures of the factory. They sold their first radio in 1921. The factory was on 32 acres. In 1924 they produced the AM radio in a Mahogany box and in 1926 in a metal box. The 1929 Model 40 was made. They produced 1 million of them in one year’s time. The radio sold for $79.00 and the speaker for $34.00. They were one of the largest manufacturers in the U.S. Great presentation. Philippe announced that ARRL started with Hams helping to find stolen cars and helping with the railroad.

Ray then gave a demonstration of the pre-laser pointer with laser tubes he purchased at the South side of the parking lot at the free flea. Laser is fiber optics and cable TV is analog. You can go to dealxtreme website to buy lasers. It was fascinating to see how far lasers have come. They also come in different colors.

John announced that he had 2 boxes of books if anyone was interested.

Robert asked if there was any other new business.

With no other business, Robert thanked everyone for coming. A Motion to close the meeting was made by Randy, seconded by Arturo. Voted and passed.

The DRC meeting was adjourned at 20:50.
